  • How to cancel a hire or batch and get your refund on Tutorac

Tutorac handles cancellations entirely inside the platform — there’s no Support ticket to raise. There are two flows depending on where you are in the process: Withdraw an offer the tutor hasn’t accepted yet (full refund), or Cancel class on a batch that’s already running (refund per the milestone-completion policy). This guide walks through both, screen by screen.

    In this article

    Which flow applies to you

Tutorac splits cancellations into two distinct states, and the button you’ll see depends on which state your hire is in:

    • Tutor hasn’t accepted yet (status: Awaiting Approval) — you’ll see a Withdraw link on the contract details page. Withdrawing returns the full amount — nothing has started yet.
    • Tutor has accepted and the batch is running (status: Upcoming or Ongoing) — you’ll see a Cancel class link inside the batch’s Payment tab, next to the active milestone. The refund follows the milestone-completion-percentage policy (full table in Cancellation policy: when you (the learner) cancel).

There is no email-Support route for routine cancellations — both buttons live in your dashboard.

Case 1: Withdraw an offer (before the tutor accepts)

When you click Hire Now on a tutor’s profile and complete the hire form, Tutorac sends the offer to the tutor and holds your payment in escrow. The tutor has 2 days to respond, or the offer expires automatically. While the offer is in Awaiting Approval, you can withdraw it at any time for a full refund.

    Step 1: Open the contract

    1. From your dashboard avatar menu (or the side nav), go to Trainings > All Contracts.
    2. Switch to the Sent Offers tab.
    3. Find the contract you want to cancel — its status will read Pending.
    4. Click View Details.

    Step 2: Withdraw the offer

On the contract details page you’ll see Status: Awaiting Approval, the message “Your offer has been sent and is currently awaiting the tutor’s response”, and below it a Tutor Hired section with a Withdraw link on the right.

    1. Click Withdraw.
    2. A Withdrawn Offer dialog opens asking “Why do you want to withdrawn this offer?”
    3. Pick a reason from the dropdown. Available reasons:
      • Sent offer by mistake
      • Found another tutor
      • Offer accepted by another tutor already
      • Training schedule mismatch
      • Training fee higher than expected
      • Course content not suitable
      • No longer need this training
      • Other (please specify)
    4. Click Withdraw in the dialog to confirm. (Cancel closes the dialog without changes.)

    Step 3: Confirmation

Tutorac shows an Offer Withdrawn confirmation: “You have withdrawn your training request sent to [Tutor Name]. The trainer has been notified and the request is now closed. Your refund will be processed.” Click Ok to close it.

Offer Withdrawn confirmation dialog on Tutorac confirming the trainer has been notified and the refund will be processed.

Because nothing on the contract has started, the full amount returns to your original payment method — nothing is deducted.

Case 2: Cancel class on an active batch

Once the tutor accepts your hire, Tutorac creates a Training Batch with one or more milestones. The Withdraw option is gone — you now use Cancel class from the batch’s Payment tab. How much you get back depends on the active milestone’s completion percentage at the time you cancel.

Step 1: Open the batch’s Payment tab

    1. Go to Trainings > My Training Batches.
    2. Find the batch you want to cancel (status: Upcoming or Ongoing) and click View Details.
    3. Inside the batch, click the Payment tab in the secondary nav.

Step 2: Locate the active milestone

You’ll see Milestone Details with each milestone listed in a card. The active one shows:

    • A completion percentage with a progress bar (e.g., 0%, 15%, 60%).
    • Payment Status: Funded (the money is in escrow with Tutorac).
    • Milestone Status (e.g., Not started, In progress).
    • A Release Payment button (used when you’re satisfied — don’t click this if you’re about to cancel).
    • Below the milestone card, a small action row containing Milestone activity, Payment details, and Cancel class.
Training batch Payment tab on Tutorac showing a Funded milestone, Release Payment button, and the Cancel class option in the action row below.

Note the current milestone-completion percentage — that’s what determines your refund split.

    Step 3: Cancel and confirm

    1. Click Cancel class.
    2. The cancellation dialog shows the milestone breakdown, the refund preview based on the policy bracket you fall into, and a cancellation reason dropdown.
    3. Review the refund amount, pick a reason, and confirm.

Once processed, the batch shows the badge Cancelled Batch and a message at the top: “Cancellation completed, You are no longer part of this class.” The affected milestone now displays Payment Status: Refunded, Milestone Status: Cancelled, and a Refunded amount line showing exactly what came back to your original payment method.

Cancelled batch on Tutorac showing Cancellation completed message, Refunded payment status, Cancelled milestone status, and the refunded amount.

How much you’ll get back (refund brackets)

The split is based on the active milestone’s completion percentage when you cancel:

    • 0% completed — 100% refund (full milestone amount back).
    • 1–10% completed — 80% refund (tutor keeps 20%).
    • 11–30% completed — 50% refund (50/50 split).
    • Above 30% completed — 0% refund (tutor keeps the milestone in full).

Only the current milestone’s funds are subject to this split. Future milestones in the batch that you funded but hadn’t started yet are refunded in full. Already-released milestones aren’t refundable — the money has left escrow. See Cancellation policy: when you (the learner) cancel for the complete table and edge cases.

    Refund timing & payment method

    • Refunds are processed automatically once you confirm — no separate request is needed.
    • The money returns to the same payment method you originally used (card-network rule, not a Tutorac choice).
    • Currency stays as on your account: ₹ INR for India accounts, $ USD for accounts elsewhere.
    • Bank/card-issuer turnaround is usually 5–10 business days after Tutorac initiates — the exact gap is on your bank’s side, not Tutorac’s.
    • If 10 business days pass with no credit, get the reference from your batch’s invoice and contact your card issuer first — they can trace it.

Before you cancel — quick checklist

    • Talk to the tutor first if you can. Sometimes a schedule mismatch or scope concern is fixable on Messages — you don’t need to lose milestone time.
    • Check the current milestone’s completion %. If you’re close to a bracket boundary (e.g., at 9% vs 11%), the refund difference can be significant.
    • Don’t click Release Payment on a milestone you intend to cancel — once released, the money leaves escrow and can’t be pulled back.
    • If the cancellation is because the tutor is the one at fault (no-shows, dormancy, misconduct), the policy is different and more favourable to you — see Cancellation policy: when your tutor cancels and Tutorac dormancy policy.

    FAQs

What if the tutor accepts the offer right as I’m about to withdraw?

Once they accept, the status flips to Scheduled/Upcoming and the Withdraw option disappears. From that moment you’d need to use Cancel class on the Payment tab instead — and the milestone-completion-percentage policy applies. If the milestone hasn’t started yet (0% completion), the refund is still 100%.

Can I cancel just one milestone and keep the rest of the batch?

No — Cancel class cancels the whole batch. If you want to drop just the remaining scope and keep what’s been done, talk to the tutor on Messages and adjust the next milestone’s scope rather than cancelling.

Is there a Support email I should write to instead?

For routine cancellations, no — the in-product Withdraw and Cancel class flows are the official routes. Tutorac Support gets involved only if you and the tutor disagree on the completion percentage, or in edge cases like dormancy or misconduct disputes.

Where do I see the refund amount before I confirm Cancel class?

The cancellation dialog shows a refund preview based on the current milestone-completion percentage and the policy bracket. Review it before confirming — once you submit, the refund initiates immediately.

What happens to a withdrawn offer if I want to re-hire later?

Withdrawing closes the contract — the tutor sees that you withdrew. You can send a fresh Hire Now request to the same tutor any time afterwards; it’s a brand-new offer and a brand-new escrow.

  • How cancellations and refunds work on Tutorac

Tutorac protects both learners and tutors by holding payment in escrow and giving each side a clear, in-product way to back out. There are two cancellation flows depending on the state of your hire: Withdraw (before the tutor accepts) for a full refund, and Cancel class (after acceptance) where the refund follows a milestone-completion-percentage policy. This article gives you the big picture; the linked guides cover each flow step by step.

    In this article

The two cancellation flows at a glance

    • Withdraw — you used Hire Now on a tutor’s profile and the tutor hasn’t accepted yet (status: Awaiting Approval). You can pull the offer back at any time before they accept. Refund is always 100% because no work has started.
    • Cancel class — the tutor has accepted, the batch exists (status: Upcoming or Ongoing), and a milestone is now in play. You cancel from the batch’s Payment tab. The refund follows the milestone-completion-percentage policy — how much you get back depends on how far the active milestone has progressed.

Whichever flow applies, you handle it yourself in the dashboard — there’s no Support ticket to file for routine cancellations. The step-by-step walkthrough for both flows is in How to cancel a hire or batch and get your refund on Tutorac.

    Flow 1: Withdraw (pre-acceptance)

When you submit a hire, the offer goes into Awaiting Approval and the tutor has 2 days to respond. While in that state:

    • You can withdraw the offer from Trainings > All Contracts > Sent Offers, then View Details > Withdraw.
    • The Withdraw dialog asks for one of 8 reasons (sent by mistake, found another tutor, etc.).
    • On confirmation, Tutorac shows “Offer Withdrawn… Your refund will be processed” and starts the full refund to your original payment method.
    • If the tutor doesn’t respond within 2 days, the offer expires and refunds automatically.

Because nothing has started, no milestone-completion bracket applies — you get all of it back.

    Flow 2: Cancel class (post-acceptance)

Once the tutor accepts, the contract becomes a Training Batch with one or more milestones. Tutorac releases payment to the tutor milestone by milestone — not all at once. When you cancel here:

    • You open Trainings > My Training Batches > View Details > Payment and click Cancel class next to the active milestone.
    • The refund preview is calculated from the active milestone’s completion percentage at the moment you cancel:
      • 0% → 100% refund of that milestone
      • 1–10% → 80% refund
      • 11–30% → 50% refund
      • Above 30% → 0% refund
    • Future milestones in the same batch that you funded but hadn’t started yet are refunded in full.
    • Already-released milestones aren’t refundable — that money has left escrow.

Full table and edge cases: Cancellation policy: when you (the learner) cancel.

When the tutor is the one cancelling

Tutors only have the post-acceptance flow (there’s no “withdraw” for them once they’ve agreed). If they cancel, the bracket is tilted in the learner’s favour — the further the milestone has progressed, the larger the tutor’s share they have to forfeit. See Cancellation policy: when your tutor cancels for the full table.

Tutors also can’t cancel a batch they’ve simply gone quiet on — if a tutor stops showing up, the Tutorac dormancy policy kicks in and protects you.

    How the money flows

    • Escrow — every milestone you fund is held by Tutorac, not paid to the tutor up-front.
    • Release — you click Release Payment on a milestone when you’re satisfied; only then does the tutor receive it.
    • Refund — whatever Tutorac is still holding for that hire (per the policy) returns to your original payment method automatically.
    • Currency — ₹ INR for India accounts; $ USD for accounts elsewhere. The refund comes back in the same currency you paid in.
    • Timing — Tutorac initiates immediately; your bank/card issuer usually credits within 5–10 business days.
Tutorac Cancellation Policy section in the User Agreement showing the milestone-completion brackets that determine refund amounts.

    FAQs

Why is there no “Cancel” button next to my hire?

You’re probably looking in the wrong place. If the tutor hasn’t accepted yet, the button is labelled Withdraw on the contract details page (Sent Offers). If the tutor has accepted, it’s Cancel class inside the batch’s Payment tab.

Will the tutor know I cancelled?

Yes, in both flows. Withdrawing closes the offer and notifies the tutor. Cancelling a class marks the batch as Cancelled and notifies them with the reason you provided.

Can I cancel only a single class within a batch?

No — cancellation always operates at the batch level. If you just want to skip a session, talk to your tutor on Messages and reschedule.

What if the tutor and I disagree about the milestone percentage?

Raise it through Tutorac Support before cancelling. They can review the milestone activity log and adjust the percentage if there’s clear evidence in either direction.

  • Troubleshooting failed payments and refunds on Tutorac

A milestone payment can fail for many reasons — most have nothing to do with Tutorac itself. This guide walks through the common decline reasons, how to fix each, what happens with refunds, and when to contact Support — whether you’re paying in ₹ (India) or $ (any other country).

    In this article

    Common reasons a payment fails

    • Insufficient funds — not enough balance / available credit on the card.
    • Card expired — old card still saved in your profile.
    • Bank declined — issuer flagged the transaction as risky (e.g., first cross-border charge).
    • 3D Secure (3DS) failed — OTP or in-app approval not completed, wrong code, or session timed out.
    • AVS mismatch — billing address on Tutorac doesn’t match the address on file with your card issuer.
    • Daily / per-transaction limit hit — some banks cap online or international spend.
    • International / online transactions disabled — many cards (India debit cards in particular) have these off by default.
    • Currency block — some cards are restricted to local-currency only and will reject a $ charge if you’re on a non-India Tutorac account, or vice versa.
    • Network glitch — intermittent issue; retry usually works.
Tutorac batch payment tab where milestone payments are made.

    Quick fixes to try

    1. Retry once — many declines are transient.
    2. Try a different card — add it via Profile → Card Details and pay with it.
    3. Check your billing address — make sure it matches your card’s registered address.
    4. Enable international / cross-border payments — in your bank’s app, turn on online and international usage for the card. Especially relevant for India-issued cards being charged in $, or non-India cards being charged in ₹.
    5. Raise transaction / daily limits — same place in your bank’s app.
    6. Call your bank — if they explicitly declined, only they can clear it.

    3D Secure / OTP issues

Most online card payments require 3D Secure (OTP code or in-app approval). This is enforced by the card networks worldwide — India has stricter RBI-mandated rules, but Visa Secure / Mastercard Identity Check apply in most countries. Common pitfalls:

    • OTP not delivered — phone signal issue or wrong number on file with your bank. Update with your bank, then retry.
    • OTP entered too late — the session timed out. Start the payment again.
    • OTP wrong — double-check the number from your latest SMS, not an old one.
    • App-based approval — some banks ask you to approve in their app instead of OTP; check the app for a pending request.
    • 3DS challenge skipped — some US cards rarely show OTP for low-value charges, but still get declined invisibly by the issuer; call the bank to whitelist Tutorac.

    Cross-border / non-local-currency cards

Tutorac bills in your account’s currency — ₹ for India accounts, $ for all other accounts. If your card is issued in a different country / currency:

    • The card must allow cross-border / international transactions. Many India-issued debit cards have this disabled by default — enable it via your bank’s app or call them.
    • Your bank will convert at its own FX rate when posting the charge. You may see a small foreign-exchange or markup fee on the statement.
    • If the charge currency is blocked by your bank’s card profile (e.g., a domestic-only debit card), the charge will be declined — use a credit card or a debit card with cross-border enabled.
    • A $ Tutorac charge on a non-USD card is normal and not a sign of fraud — it’s how the global account is billed.

    How refunds work

Refunds come back to the original payment method, in the same currency as the charge — never to a different card or to a wallet. The refunded amount depends on why the refund is happening:

    • Failed transaction — if the bank charged you but the payment didn’t go through on Tutorac, the bank usually auto-reverses within a few days. No action needed on Tutorac’s side.
    • Cancelled milestone — refund is calculated per the Cancellation by Learner / by Tutor rules in the User Agreement (based on % of the milestone completed).
    • Released payment — once released, the milestone is final and is not part of the standard refund flow.

If your original payment was in $ and your card is in another currency, the bank may use a different FX rate for the refund than the original charge — meaning the refund amount in your local currency might be slightly different from what you originally paid. This is normal bank behaviour, not a Tutorac shortfall.

    Refund timeline

    • Tutorac side — initiates the refund within 1–2 business days of approval.
    • Bank side — typically 5–10 business days for the credit to show on your statement (varies by issuer).
    • International cards — sometimes longer due to cross-border processing.

If 10 business days have passed and you don’t see the credit, share the refund reference (from Tutorac) with your bank — they can trace it on their end.

    When to contact Tutorac Support

    • You were charged but the milestone shows unpaid for more than 24 hours.
    • A refund hasn’t arrived after 10 business days.
    • You see a payment on your card statement you don’t recognise.
    • The Release Payment button doesn’t work after multiple tries.
    • Any other payment-related dispute.

When contacting Support, include: batch name, milestone number, transaction date / amount + currency (₹ or $), the last 4 digits of the card, and any error message you saw.

    FAQs

My bank shows the money was debited but Tutorac says payment failed. What happened?

Bank temporarily held the amount but the authorisation didn’t complete on Tutorac’s side. The hold drops off automatically within a few days — no separate refund needed. If it doesn’t, contact your bank with the transaction reference.

Can I get a refund to a different card or method?

No. Refunds always go to the original payment method, in the original currency. If that card is no longer active (lost, expired, closed account), contact your bank — they usually still route the refund to your linked bank account.

Why is Tutorac trying to charge me in $ when I’m paying with an INR card (or vice versa)?

The charge currency is determined by the country on your Tutorac account, not by the card’s currency. India accounts are charged in ₹; all other countries in $. Your bank handles the FX automatically.

Can I dispute a payment with my bank instead of Tutorac?

Try Tutorac Support first — chargebacks are slower, can have fees, and may freeze your Tutorac account while under review. Most issues are resolved faster on-platform.

Will a failed payment cancel my contract?

No, a failed payment doesn’t cancel anything. The milestone stays pending — just retry payment with the same or a different card.

What if my tutor cancels a milestone after I’ve paid?

Tutorac applies the “Cancellation by Tutor” refund rules in the same currency you paid — typically you get back most or all of the milestone amount depending on how much was already taught. See the Tutorac User Agreement for the exact split.

  • Tutorac Terms of Service: what learners should know

When you create a Tutorac account, you agree to our Terms of Service — the agreement that governs how you use the platform. This article explains, in plain language, what the Terms cover and what they mean for you as a learner. It’s a summary for convenience; the full Terms of Service is the binding document.

    In this article

What the Terms of Service are

The Terms of Service (also called the Terms of Use or User Agreement) is the contract between you and Tutorac. It sets out the rules for using the website and services, the responsibilities of both you and Tutorac, and what happens if something goes wrong. It applies whenever you browse, book training, buy a course, or otherwise use the platform.

    When you accept them

You accept the Terms of Service when you create an account and continue to accept them each time you use Tutorac. If you don’t agree with the Terms, you shouldn’t use the platform. Tutorac may update the Terms from time to time, and continued use after an update means you accept the revised version.

What the Terms cover for learners

For learners, the Terms typically address areas such as:

    • Your account — keeping your login secure and your details accurate, and being responsible for activity on your account.
    • Payments — how you pay for live training, video courses, and subscriptions, and that prices are tax-inclusive.
    • Using the platform — acceptable behaviour and the things you must not do.
    • Content and intellectual property — that course materials belong to their owners and are provided for your personal learning.
    • Cancellations and refunds — the rules that apply when a booking or purchase is cancelled.
    • Disputes — how disagreements are handled.
    • Account suspension — when access may be limited or removed for policy violations.

Several of these topics have their own dedicated help articles (for example, payments, cancellations, and safety), which explain the day-to-day details.

    Reading the full Terms

This article is a plain-language summary only. The complete, binding Terms of Service is published on Tutorac and linked in the footer of every page. If anything in this summary appears to differ from the full Terms, the full Terms always take precedence. If you have a question about a specific clause, email support@tutorac.com.

    FAQs

Do I have to read the whole Terms of Service?

We recommend it. This summary highlights the key points, but the full document is what legally applies. It’s worth reading before you make your first booking or purchase.

Will I be told if the Terms change?

Tutorac updates the Terms from time to time and the current version is always available in the page footer. Continuing to use the platform after a change means you accept the updated Terms.

What happens if I break the Terms?

Depending on the issue, Tutorac may warn you, restrict certain features, or suspend or close your account. Serious violations — such as fraud or abuse — can lead to immediate removal.

Where can I get help understanding a clause?

Email support@tutorac.com and describe the part you’d like clarified. Note that support can explain how something works but can’t provide legal advice.

    • Go to My Profile → Invoices.
    • Click any invoice to view or download it as a PDF.

    FAQs

The renewal date is shown on the My Subscription page. Tutorac will automatically charge your saved card on that date for the next billing period.

What happens if my card payment fails?

Tutorac will retry the payment and email you. If renewal still fails, your subscription pauses at the end of your current paid period until you update the card and re-subscribe.

Can I get a refund for an unused part of my subscription?

Subscription payments are generally non-refundable once a billing period has started. If you believe you were charged in error, email support@tutorac.com with your invoice details and the team will look into it.

Will I lose my saved progress if I cancel?

No. Your Watch History, bookmarks, and any individually purchased courses stay in your account. You’ll lose subscription-only access to the library, but anything you bought outright remains available in Purchased Courses.

Can I remove a saved card I no longer use?

Yes. Open My Profile → Card Details and remove the card you don’t need. Make sure at least one valid card is on file if you have an active subscription, so renewals can be processed.

Yes. Use Add to cart on each course, then open your cart and check out once. You’ll receive a single invoice covering all the courses in that order.

What’s the difference between Buy now and Start Subscription?

Buy now is a one-time payment that unlocks the single course you’re viewing. Start Subscription opens the subscription plans, which give you unlimited access to the entire video library for the duration of the plan. Pick subscription if you plan to watch several courses; pick Buy now if you only want one or two.

Can I get a refund on a purchased course?

Single-course purchases are generally non-refundable once payment is complete. If you believe you were charged in error, email support@tutorac.com with your invoice details and the team will look into it.

Where do I find an invoice for my purchase?

Open the profile menu in the top right and go to My Profile → Invoices. Every paid order has its own invoice you can view or download.

  • Reading your invoice and payment receipt on Tutorac

Every milestone payment on Tutorac generates an invoice and an email receipt. This article shows where to find them, what each field means, and how to download a PDF copy for your records or tax filing.

    In this article

    Where to find your invoice

You have two places to access invoices: Profile menu > Invoices for a list of every payment across all batches, or open a specific batch > Payment tab to see invoices for that batch only. Each invoice has a View and Download button.

    Email receipt after every payment

After every successful milestone funding or release, Tutorac sends a receipt email to your registered address. The email summarises the amount, batch, milestone, and payment method, and includes a link to download the full PDF invoice. Keep these emails for your records.

    Fields on your invoice

    Your invoice includes:

    • Invoice number — unique reference (use this when contacting support)
    • Invoice date — date the payment was processed
    • Bill to — your name and billing address at the time of payment
    • Batch ID — the training batch this milestone belongs to
    • Milestone reference — which milestone was funded or released
    • Tutor’s fee — the amount that goes to your tutor
    • Tutorac service fee — the platform fee
    • Discount or promo applied — if any
    • Tax — GST (India) or local sales tax/VAT (other regions)
    • Total paid — the amount charged to your card
    • Currency — ₹ INR or $ USD
    • Payment method — last 4 digits of card used

    Downloading as PDF

From the Invoices list, click the Download button next to any invoice to save it as a PDF. The PDF is identical to what you see on screen and is signed/stamped where required by local tax regulations. You can also forward the original receipt email to your accountant.

    GST invoice for India accounts

If your account is based in India, your invoice is a tax invoice with Tutorac’s GSTIN, your GSTIN (if you provided one), HSN/SAC code, and a separate GST line. Use this invoice to claim input tax credit where eligible. Add your business GSTIN under Profile > Billing Address so future invoices include it.

    Update billing address for invoices

To change the address that appears on future invoices, go to Profile > Billing Address, update the fields, and save. The new address applies to invoices generated after the change. Older invoices keep the address they were issued with — contact support if you need a reissue.

    FAQs

I never got the receipt email — what now?

Check your spam folder first. If it is not there, sign in and go to Profile > Invoices to download the invoice directly. You can also update your notification email in Profile > Basic Info.

Can I get a single invoice covering multiple milestones?

No. Each milestone payment generates its own invoice. This keeps refund and audit handling clean.

The name on my invoice is wrong — can it be changed?

Update Profile > Basic Info and Profile > Billing Address. Future invoices use the corrected details. For an existing invoice, contact support with the invoice number and the correction needed.

    How long are invoices stored?

All your invoices remain available in your account for as long as the account is active. We recommend downloading and archiving PDFs for your own tax records.

If a milestone is refunded, do I get a new invoice?

Yes. A credit note is issued when a refund is processed, referencing the original invoice. The credit note appears in Profile > Invoices alongside your payment invoices.

  • Coupon codes on Tutorac

Tutors on Tutorac can issue coupon codes to their learners. You apply these codes at the time of enrolling in a live course to get a discount on the course fee. This article explains where coupons come from, how to apply one, and the rules around them.

    In this article

What are coupon codes on Tutorac?

Coupon codes on Tutorac are discount codes created and shared by tutors. A tutor can offer a code to a specific learner or a group of learners as a promotion on their live courses. The discount is applied to the course fee at the time of enrolment.

How you receive a coupon code

Coupon codes are shared directly by tutors. You may receive a code through a message on Tutorac, in an announcement from a tutor you follow, or as part of a promotional campaign the tutor is running. Tutorac itself does not issue coupon codes — they always come from a tutor.

How to apply a coupon code at live course enrolment

    1. Open the live course you want to enrol in.
    2. Click Enrol to go to the enrolment page.
    3. Look for the coupon code field above the total.
    4. Enter the code exactly as the tutor shared it and click Apply.
    5. The discount appears as a separate line item, and the updated total is shown.
    6. Complete the payment to confirm your enrolment.

Codes are case-sensitive. If a code is invalid, expired, or not meant for that course, you will see an error message and the discount will not apply.

    Rules and restrictions

    • Coupon codes can only be applied during live course enrolment.
    • Each coupon code can usually be used once per learner (the tutor sets the limit).
    • Codes have an expiry date set by the tutor.
    • A code is tied to the issuing tutor’s courses — it will not work on another tutor’s course.
    • The discount applies to the course fee. GST or local taxes are still calculated on the discounted amount.
    • If you cancel an enrolment, the refund follows the standard cancellation policy on the amount you actually paid after the coupon.

    FAQs

Where do I find a coupon code?

Coupon codes are shared by tutors. Check messages from your tutor on Tutorac, their course page, or any promotional emails or social posts they have sent. Tutorac does not publish a public list of codes.

My code says “invalid” — what do I do?

Check for typos and capitalisation. Make sure the code has not expired and that you are applying it to a live course offered by the tutor who gave you the code. If it still does not work, contact the tutor.

Can I use more than one coupon at the same time?

No. Only one coupon code can be applied per enrolment.

Does a coupon work on a hire or 1-on-1 booking?

No. Coupon codes apply at live course enrolment only.

If I cancel my enrolment, do I get the coupon back?

The coupon itself is not refunded as cash. Your refund is based on the amount you actually paid after the discount, following Tutorac’s cancellation policy.

  • Tutorac service fees and what you actually pay

A common question when you see a tutor’s rate or get a milestone amount: is there extra on top? On Tutorac, the answer for learners is simple — you pay the agreed amount and nothing more. The service fee that runs the platform is taken from the tutor’s earnings, not added to your bill. Here’s the full picture.

    In this article

    What you actually pay

    • For a live training, you pay the milestone amount shown in the hire form — nothing more.
    • If the milestone says ₹5,000 (or $60), that is the amount that gets charged to your card or UPI.
    • There is no separate “learner service fee” added at checkout.
    • Applicable taxes (e.g., GST in India) are collected at payment time and shown clearly on your receipt.

Where the service fee comes in (tutor’s side)

Tutorac runs the platform, the escrow, the dispute resolution, the Drive, the messaging, and everything else — that costs money to run. The service fee is what keeps it going. But on Tutorac, that fee is paid by the tutor out of their earnings, not by you:

    • When you click Release Payment on a milestone, Tutorac takes its service fee from the milestone amount before transferring the rest to the tutor’s payout balance.
    • The tutor sees both the gross (what you paid) and the net (what they receive) in their own dashboard.
    • The exact percentage is in the tutor’s agreement. As a learner, you don’t need to track it — it doesn’t affect what you pay.

    Payment processing & taxes

    • Payment processor charges — absorbed by Tutorac. The amount you fund doesn’t change because you used a credit card vs UPI vs net banking.
    • India accounts — GST is added on top of the milestone amount at payment time per Indian tax law and shown on your invoice.
    • US / other accounts — sales tax/VAT applies based on your jurisdiction; if applicable, it’s shown at checkout and on the invoice.
    • Foreign-exchange conversion — if your card’s currency differs from your account currency (e.g., USD card on an INR account), your bank/network handles conversion at their rate. Tutorac doesn’t mark this up.

    Video Courses pricing

    • Video courses (pre-recorded) work the same way — the listed price is what you pay, plus any applicable tax.
    • The tutor’s share is paid out of the listed price minus the service fee, just like a milestone release.

    Example breakdown

India learner hiring at ₹5,000 / milestone (GST 18%):

    • You see at checkout: ₹5,000 milestone + ₹900 GST = ₹5,900 total charge.
    • Tutorac holds ₹5,000 in escrow; the GST is remitted to the tax authority.
    • When you release the milestone, the tutor receives ₹5,000 minus their service fee (paid out of their share).
    • Your card statement shows ₹5,900; your invoice shows the GST split out.

US learner hiring at $60 / milestone:

    • You see at checkout: $60 milestone + any applicable state sales tax = total charge.
    • Tutorac holds the $60 milestone; the tax (if any) goes to the relevant authority.
    • When you release, the tutor receives $60 minus their service fee.

    FAQs

Do I pay any fee on refunds?

No — refunds processed through Tutorac don’t charge you anything additional. Your bank may take a day or two longer than the deposit to credit the refund, but the amount they credit is the full eligible refund per the cancellation policy.

Why are some tutors’ profile rates lower than their final hire amounts?

Profile rates are usually for hourly work — if your scope is custom (specific deliverables, certifications, bigger commitment), tutors often quote a different total. This isn’t a hidden fee; it’s a negotiated price.

Can the tutor pass their service fee onto me by raising their rate?

Effectively, the tutor sets a rate that works for them after fees — just like any service provider on any platform. From your side, the amount is the amount. The structural protection is that you can compare tutors and rates openly.
